Ross Williams Selected to Contest Penrhiwceiber Ward By-Election

Local Labour member Ross Williams has been selected to stand as Welsh Labour’s candidate in the Penrhiwceiber ward by-election on Thursday, May 6th.

The by-election was called after Gavin Williams came out of compliance after failing to attend a Council meeting for over a year.

Ross is an active member of the local community with a track record of delivering for communities, having co-organised and run a local Santa Appeal since 2016, working with RCT Council’s Resilient Families service to ensure that no child goes without a present at Christmas; and also as a Volunteer Ambassador for Llamau, the homelessness charity for women and young people.  Throughout the pandemic, Ross has also volunteered at the Cynon Foodbank and given his time as a Community Volunteer.

Ross said: “I am truly honoured to have the opportunity to represent the area that I was born and spent my whole life in.

“The Penrhiwceiber ward certainly has its challenges, but we also have a fantastic community spirit and I see so much potential right across our communities.

“I have always passionately believed that everyone should be given the same opportunities to thrive in life, and I am determined to make sure that our children tap in to their potential and have those opportunities.

“We live in such a beautiful place and the community spirit that I see firsthand on a daily basis is unlike anywhere else – this was evident throughout the pandemic with everyone pulling together to support our most vulnerable during the most difficult twelve months anyone has experienced.

“I am confident that I can make a real difference to our communities, and I would love to be given the opportunity to work alongside Councillor Adam Fox to deliver a range of projects to encourage our residents to help make Penrhiwceiber the best place possible.”
